Title: PMP Rapid Review

During my journey to obtain my PMP certification, I have come across and used books that covered the exam by discussing the knowledge areas or the process groups. Recently, I came across a study guide that provided a different approach on how to study for the exam. PMP Rapid Review covers the exam tasks. That’s right the exam tasks! And this approach demystifies what PMI is testing for in each domain task.
Sean Whitaker, the author of this book, does a great job of telling you just what you need to know to address and understand the exam domain and tasks. The book chapters cover each process group domain area and its associate tasks. Each chapter starts with a summary overview and then discusses each task in detail. Each task discussion contains a section entitled, “Exam Need to Know…” and then provides exam tips, checklists, review questions, and links to other materials. It also references the 5th Edition of the PMBOK Guide, so you know it is current.
PMP Rapid Review is both easy to read and to understand. As is says in the book, it is not marketed as a comprehensive exam preparation guide. However, it is the perfect supplemental guide that you may want to review as you study for the exam. It is small is size and about 250 pages. You can use this book to assess your strengths and weaknesses.
All books have pluses and minuses. For me, a major plus is that I can’t find much in terms of errata complaints. The minus is that it is a Microsoft product and there are references to the Microsoft PMP prep materials and courses. I know that may turn off some readers. For me it was not a problem.
I love books and like to share my thoughts on them. I hope this was helpful!
